« Félin ». Fuchsite à rubis. « Feline ». Ruby fuchsite. Madagascar. 2024

Nature : Fuchsite à rubis. Sculpté en mars 2024.
Localisation : Madagascar. Province d’Adilamena (NE d’Antanarivo, district de Mandritsara, Province de Mahajanga).
Géologie : Cette roche se localise dans une ceinture Néo-Protérozoïque (1000-540 Ma) affectée par la tectonique panafricaine. La formation de rubis est liée à des processus géologiques impliquant un métamorphisme élevé (pression : 0,4 à 1,1 GPa ;   température : 550 à 750 °C).
La couleur rouge intense du rubis est liée au remplacement de certains ions aluminium par du chrome.
Dans la roche exposée, les cristaux rouges de rubis (corindon Al₂O₃Cr) automorphes et entourés d’auréoles réactionnelles (la couleur blanche provient de l’altération de disthène) sont épars dans une matrice de mica vert chromifère (fuchsite ; dureté 2 à 3).
Usage : Bijouterie et objet de collection.
Technique : Sculpture à vitesse lente. Outils : meuleuse droite et angulaire. Cette Sculpture est assez difficile à réaliser car elle combine 2 pierres aux duretés très différentes (2,5 pour le mica et 9 pour le rubis), ce qui rend le polissage notamment assez complexe. La sculpture du « félin » est liée à la géométrie initiale de la roche (paréidolie) ; la tête a été peu touchée, conservant une partie brute et l’autre polie.

Nature: Ruby fuchsite. Sculpted in March 2024.
Location: Madagascar. Adilamena Province (NE of Antanarivo, Mandritsara district, Mahajanga Province).
Geology: This rock is located in a Neo-Proterozoic belt (1000-540 Ma) affected by Pan-African tectonics.
Ruby formation is linked to geological processes involving high metamorphism (pressure: 0.4 to 1.1 GPa;  temperature: 550 to 750 °C).
The intense red color of ruby ​​is linked to the replacement of certain aluminum ions by chromium.
In the exposed rock, the red ruby ​​crystals (corundum Al2O3Cr) automorphic and surrounded by reaction halos (the white color comes from the alteration of kyanite) are scattered in a matrix of chromiferous green mica (fuchsite; hardness 2 to 3).
Use: Jewelry and collector’s item.
Technique: Slow speed carving. Tools: straight and angle grinder. This Sculpture is quite difficult to make because it combines 2 stones with very different hardnesses (2.5 for mica and 9 for ruby), which makes polishing quite complex. The sculpture of the “feline” is linked to the initial geometry of the rock (pareidolia); the head was barely affected, retaining one part raw and the other polished.

Géologie et Âge : L’anyolite est une roche métamorphique composée de minéraux millimétriques, de zoïsite verte (épidote chromifère ; dureté : 6) associée à la pargasite noire/vert foncé (amphibole) et au rubis (en rubans ou porphyroblastes épars). Cette roche a été découverte dans la région d’Arusha en Tanzanie.
Cette roche se localise dans la « Mozambique Belt », qui est une ceinture d’âge Néoprotérozoïque (1000-540 Ma) affectée par la tectonique panafricaine.
Dans cette ceinture (Tectonic implications of new single zircon Pb-Pb evaporation data in the Lossogonoi and Longido ruby-districts, Mozambican metamorphic Belt of north-eastern Tanzania – ScienceDirect), les formations volcano-plutoniques et métasédimentaires néoprotérozoïques sont affectées par un premier événement de déformation (D1) dans des conditions granulitiques de haute pression à 640 Ma.
Ces unités empilées sont ensuite mises en place par chevauchement sur un ancien socle d’âge Néoarchéen à Paléoprotérozoïque inférieur lors d’un deuxième événement de déformation (D2), dans des conditions de faciès amphibolite.
Finalement toutes ces unités sont cisaillées et plissées à 610 Ma. Au cours de cette dernière étape, la déformation est fortement hétérogène et se caractérise par des zones de cisaillement qui suivent des zones ductiles telles que des corps de serpentinites où se localisent les veines de rubis des districts de Longido et de Lossogonoi. Dans ces districts, le rubis est contemporain de cet événement de déformation à 610 Ma. De plus, les zonations chimiques et minéralogiques entre la veine de rubis et les roches encaissantes indiquent qu’un processus métamorphique-métasomatique est responsable de la cristallisation du rubis comme déjà suggéré (Simonet, 2000 Une classification des gisements de corindon gemme visant l’exploration des gemmes – ScienceDirect).

Geology and Age: Anyolite is a metamorphic rock composed of millimeter-sized minerals, green zoisite (chromiferous epidote);
hardness: 6) associated with black/dark green pargasite (amphibole) and ruby ​​(in scattered ribbons or porphyroblasts). This rock was discovered in the Arusha region of Tanzania.

These stacked units are then emplaced by thrust on an ancient basement of Neoarchean to lower Paleoproterozoic age during a second deformation event (D2), in amphibolite facies conditions.
Finally all these units are sheared and folded at 610 Ma. During this last stage,
the deformation is highly heterogeneous and is characterized by shear zones which follow ductile zones such as serpentinite bodies where the ruby ​​veins of the Longido and Lossogonoi districts are located. In these districts, the ruby ​​is contemporary with this deformation event at 610 Ma. Furthermore,
the chemical and mineralogical zonations between the ruby ​​vein and the surrounding rocks indicate that a metamorphic-metasomatic process is responsible for the crystallization of the ruby ​​as already suggested (Simonet, 2000 A classification of gem corundum deposits aimed at the exploration of gems – ScienceDirect).

Géologie : Le lapis-lazuli est une roche métamorphique, composée de divers minéraux : feldspathoïdes dont lazurite (Na6Ca2(AlSiO4)6(SO4,S,S2,S3,Cl,OH)2), haüyne (Na₃Ca(Si₃Al₃)O₁₂(SO₄)) et sodalite (Na8Al6Si6O24Cl2)), calcite, wollastonite, amphiboles, micas, phlogopites, plagioclases, pyroxènes, sulfures métalliques (notamment pyrite jaune (FeS2).
Sa roche hôte est un marbre. En effet, la genèse du lapis-lazuli aurait commencé au sein de roches sédimentaires (marnes, grès et de calcaire et évaporites). (https://dumas.ccsd.cnrs.fr/dumas-03279257/document)
Ces roches auraient été affectées par deux événements successifs.
1- Un métamorphisme de contact, sous pression et température élevées d’où auraient été absents les minéraux sodiques caractéristiques du lapis-lazuli (lazurite et haüyne), qui n’aurait concentré le sodium que dans les phlogopites.
2- Une rétromorphose à basse pression où les phlogopites, devenus métastables, se seraient transformées, après apport de soufre, en haüyne et lazurite, le sodium ayant été dissous dans les solutions hydrothermales.
La couleur bleue du lapis-lazuli provient d’un minéral, la lazurite, qui peut constituer de 25 à 40 % de la roche). Le bleu de la lazurite, quant à lui, est dû à la proportion de calcium et à l’instabilité du soufre dans la structure de ce minéral. Sodalite et haüyne sont aussi des minéraux bleus.
Usage :  L’utilisation en bijouterie du lapis-lazuli est très ancienne (Mésopotamie, Egypte, …). Le lapis-lazuli a également été utilisé en peinture d’art (pigment outremer).

These rocks would have been affected by two successive events.

2- A low pressure retromorphosis where the phlogopites, having become metastable, would have been transformed, after addition of sulfur, into haüyne and lazurite, the sodium having been dissolved in the hydrothermal solutions.
The blue color of lapis lazuli comes from a mineral, lazurite, which can make up 25 to 40% of the rock).
The blue of lazurite, for its part, is due to the proportion of calcium and the instability of sulfur in the structure of this mineral. Sodalite and haüyne are also blue minerals.

Nature : Amazonite.
Localisation : Brésil, Province de Minas Gerais (Régions de Teófilo Otoni et de Governador Valadares).
Géologie, minéralogie : L’amazonite est un feldspath microcline de système cristallin triclinique, et dont la formule est KAlSi3O8. Dureté : 6 à 6,5. Densité = 2,54 à 2,57.
La couleur de ce minéral évolue du vert au vert-bleu ; elle serait liée à la présence de plomb (jusqu’à 1,2% de PbO). Le remplacement de deux atomes de K par un de Pb est lacunaire ; le vide créé laisse passer la couleur d’onde correspondant au vert.
L’amazonite a une texture perthitique (enchevêtrement de deux feldspaths alcalins potassique et sodique, par exsolution lors du refroidissement). La pièce exposée, issue d’une pegmatite, présente outre l’amazonite verte, du feldspath blanc et du quartz.
Usage : Appréciée de anciens égyptiens elle est toujours très utilisée en bijouterie, objets de décoration et sculpture ornementale.

Nature: Amazonite.
Location: Brazil, Minas Gerais Province (Teófilo Otoni and Governador Valadares regions).
Geology, mineralogy: Amazonite is a microcline feldspar with a triclinic crystal system, and whose formula is KAlSi3O8. Hardness: 6 to 6.5. Density = 2.54 to 2.57.
The color of this mineral changes from green to green-blue; it would be linked to the presence of lead (up to 1.2% PbO). The replacement of two K atoms by one of Pb is incomplete; the vacuum created allows the wave color corresponding to green to pass.
Amazonite has a perthitic texture (entanglement of two alkali feldspars, potassium and sodium, by exsolution during cooling).
The exhibited piece, made from a pegmatite, presents in addition to green amazonite, white feldspar and quartz.
Use: Appreciated by ancient Egyptians, it is still widely used in jewelry, decorative objects and ornamental sculpture.

Localisation : Brésil. Les principales occurrences d’aventurine bleue ont été identifiées dans le Mato Grosso (Serra do Roncador, où se localisent des quartzites), et à un degré moindre dans le Minas Gerais et l’Etat de Bahia.
Minéralogie : Bien que l’aventurine soit généralement considérée comme une variété de quartz, l’aventurine est en fait une variété de quartzite contenant des inclusions (fuchsite pour la variété verte, dumortiérite pour la variété bleue, parfois ilménite, hématite).
En raison de sa structure granuleuse, l’aventurine a une fracture irrégulière, de sorte que les pièces brutes et non polies ont une surface rugueuse semblable à celle du marbre ou du quartzite.
L’aventurine bleue est parfois appelée quartz bleu. La couleur est alors souvent causée par la dumortiérite, (Al,Fe)₇O₃(BO₃)(SiO₄)₃. Dans la pierre exposée, le quartzite présente un rubanement métamorphique ainsi que des fractures circulaires.
Usage : Joaillerie. L’aventurine peut être taillée et polie comme une pierre semi-précieuse d’une couleur bleu sombre à bleu très clair.

Location: Brazil. The main occurrences of blue aventurine have been identified in Mato Grosso (Serra do Roncador, where quartzites are located), and to a lesser degree in Minas Gerais and the State of Bahia.
Mineralogy: Although aventurine is generally considered a variety of quartz, aventurine is actually a variety of quartzite containing inclusions (fuchsite for the green variety, dumortierite for the blue variety, sometimes ilmenite, hematite).
Due to its grainy structure, aventurine has an irregular fracture,
so that raw, unpolished pieces have a rough surface similar to marble or quartzite.

Nature : Labradorite.
Localisation et géologie : Sud-Ouest de Madagascar, district d’Ampanihy, région de Fotadrevo, Région de Menabe. La labradorite est localisée dans les massifs d’anorthosites (âges : ~ 559 +- 50Ma, âge Sm-Nd). Présence de labradorite également au Sud de Madagascar (Région d’Anosy).
Minéralogie : La labradorite est un minéral de la famille des feldspaths plagioclases. Il s’agit d’une variété d’anorthite. Sa formule chimique est (Na,Ca)(Al,Si)4O8, avec des traces de Fe, K et H2O.
La Labradorite se caractérise par des variations de couleurs à l’éclat métallique. Le bleu et le vert sont les couleurs le plus souvent présentes, mais certaines pierres de qualité peuvent être habitées par toutes les couleurs du spectre. Le phénomène est le résultat d’interférences dans des lamelles jumelées (effet Schiller d’adularescence). Densité calculée = 2,84.
Usage : bijouterie-joaillerie
Technique : Sculpture à vitesse lente. Outils : meuleuse droite et angulaire. L’Endormie a été sculptée sur la face brute, qui montre moins d’adularescence que la facie sciée et polie.

Nature: Labradorite.
Location and geology: South-West of Madagascar, Ampanihy district, Fotadrevo region, Menabe region. Labradorite is located in anorthosite massifs (ages: ~ 559 +- 50Ma, Sm-Nd age). Presence of labradorite also in the south of Madagascar (Anosy region).
Mineralogy: Labradorite is a mineral of the plagioclase feldspar family. This is a variety of anorthite. Its chemical formula is (Na,Ca)(Al,Si)4O8, with traces of Fe, K and H2O.
Labradorite is characterized by color variations with a metallic shine. Blue and green are the colors most often present,
but some quality stones can be inhabited by all colors of the spectrum. The phenomenon is the result of interference in paired lamellae (Schiller effect of adularescence). Calculated density = 2.84.
Use: jewelry
Technique: Slow speed sculpture. Tools: straight and angle grinder.
The Sleeping One was sculpted on the raw side, which shows less adularescence than the sawn and polished side.

La localisation n’est pas précisée par les fournisseurs de ces minéraux.
Les gisements de calcite orange de Minas Gerais sont essentiellement liés à des systèmes hydrothermaux (liés à des circulations de fluides chauds chargés en minéraux, circulant dans des fissures et dans des fractures des roches ; ces fluides peuvent dissoudre et précipiter la calcite orange) et/ou à des skarns (gisements formés dans des roches carbonatées au contact d’intrusions magmatique, puis traversés par des fluides hydrothermaux).
Parmi les principaux gisements de Minas Gerais on peut citer Ouro Preto et Capelinha.
La calcite orange est également connue dans l’Etat de Bahia (e.g. gisement de type karstique de Serra das Eguas) et dans Le Rio Grande do Sul ((e.g. gisement de type karstique de Irai). Dans ces gisements la calcite orange est essentiellement sous la forme de cristaux.
Minéralogie : La calcite est un carbonate de calcium de formule chimique CaCO3. Elle a une structure cristalline trigonale, appartenant au système cristallin hexagonal. Son réseau cristallin est composé d’ions calcium liés à des ions carbonate selon un motif répétitif. Cet arrangement donne naissance aux propriétés optiques particulières de la calcite, et notamment la double réfraction et la biréfringence. Dureté : 2,67 à 2,73. Densité : 2.7102. Système cristallin : Trigonal.
La couleur de la calcite est liée à la présence d’impuretés ou de traces d’éléments dans la structure cristalline du minéral.  La couleur orange de ces calcites est liée à la présence d’oxydes de fer (e.g. impuretés d’hématite).
Usage : La calcite orange est utilisée pour la création d’objets décoratifs et comme pierres semi-précieuses.
Technique : La face non sciée présentait des reliefs qui ont induit cette forme, nommée « Colomba » par un ami. Sculpture à vitesse lente. Outils : meuleuse droite et angulaire.

Nature: Orange calcite.
Location and Geology: Minas Gerais, Brazil.
The precise location is not specified by the suppliers of these minerals.
The orange calcite deposits of Minas Gerais are essentially linked to hydrothermal systems (linked to circulations of hot fluids loaded with minerals,
flowing through cracks and fractures in rocks; these fluids can dissolve and precipitate orange calcite) and/or skarns (deposits formed in carbonate rocks in contact with magmatic intrusions, then crossed by hydrothermal fluids).
Among the main deposits of Minas Gerais we can cite Ouro Preto and Capelinha.
Orange calcite is also known in the State of Bahia (e.g. karst type deposit of Serra das Eguas) and in Rio Grande do Sul (e.g. karst type deposit of Irai).
In these deposits the orange calcite is mainly in the form of crystals.
Mineralogy: Calcite is a calcium carbonate with the chemical formula CaCO3. It has a trigonal crystal structure, belonging to the hexagonal crystal system.
Its crystal lattice is composed of calcium ions bonded to carbonate ions in a repeating pattern. This arrangement gives rise to the special optical properties of calcite, including double refraction and birefringence. Hardness: 2.67 to 2.73. Density: 2.7102. Crystal system: Trigonal.
The color of calcite is linked to the presence of impurities or traces of elements in the crystal structure of the mineral. The orange color of these calcites is linked to the presence of iron oxides (e.g. hematite impurities).
Use: Orange calcite is used to create decorative objects and as semi-precious stones.

Minéralogie : « Pinolite » est un nom ancien pour une roche carbonatée, métamorphique, composée de magnésite (MgCO3) et de dolomite (CaMg(CO3)2).
La matrice grise à noire, pigmentée de graphite, est composée de dolomite avec des inclusions de grains de magnésite blanche à gris clair évoquant des pignons de pin dessinant des fleurs et des feuillages. Dureté : 3-4.
Géologie : Les pinolites se sont formées dans des environnements marins peu profonds au cours du Permien (299-251 Ma). Elles se sont formées dans des environnements évaporitiques où l’évaporation de l’eau de mer a conduit à la précipitation des grains de magnésite dans la matrice dolomitique compacte et fine.
Localisation : Autriche (Région de Styrie, district de Bruck-Mürzzuschlag). L’extraction de la magnésite en Styrie se fait par des méthodes à ciel ouvert et souterraines.
Utilisation : C’est une pierre rare appréciée pour sa texture, évoquant, pignes, fleurs et feuillages Utilisée comme pierre décorative et parfois en joaillerie sous forme de cabochons.

Mineralogy: “Pinolite” is an ancient name for a carbonate, metamorphic rock composed of magnesite (MgCO3) and dolomite (CaMg(CO3)2).
The gray to black matrix, pigmented with graphite, is composed of dolomite with inclusions of white to light gray magnesite grains evoking pine nuts depicting flowers and foliage. Hardness: 3-4.
Geology: Pinolites formed in shallow marine environments during the Permian (299-251 Ma). They formed in evaporitic environments where the evaporation of seawater led to the precipitation of magnesite grains in the compact and fine dolomitic matrix.
Location: Austria (Region of Styria, district of Bruck-Mürzzuschlag). Magnesite mining in Styria takes place by open-cast and underground methods.
Use: It is a rare stone appreciated for its texture, evoking pine nuts,
flowers and foliage Used as a decorative stone and sometimes in jewelry in the form of cabochons.

Nature : La Mookaïte (ou Mokaïte) est un faciès silicifié de radiolarite (roche à radiolaire) où la silciification est à opale et chalcédoine. Dureté : 6 – 7. Coloration due aux granules d’oxyde/hydroxyde de fer.
Localisation et géologie :  La seule source connue de « Mookaite » est Mooka Creek, à l’ouest des Kennedy Ranges, à 180 km à l’est de Carnarvon.
Le terme « Mookaite » est non officiel, inventé localement, pour une porcelaine silicifiée qui se forme dans le profil d’altération d’une formation géologique connue sous le nom de Windalia Radiolarite (WR), une unité sédimentaire du Crétacé inférieur affleurant dans le bassin de Carnarvon en Australie occidentale. https://www.mindat.org/min-27597.html . https://www.mindat.org/loc-291538.html.

Nature : Aragonite.
Minéralogie : L’aragonite est un minéral appartenant au groupe des carbonates. Sa formule chimique est CaCO3. Système cristallin orthorhombique. Dureté : 3,5 à 4.
Localisation : Bénitier (Tridacna, mollusque bivalve). Région précise inconnue (Pacifique Ouest ?). [Don de « Promo Pierre Dure »].
Usage :  « Vers les VIIe et VIe siècles avant notre ère se développe en Phénicie un artisanat utilisant des coquilles de tridacne, gravées, originaires de la mer Rouge. Cet art s’exporte dans l’est du Bassin méditerranéen jusqu’en Étrurie. Ces objets se retrouvent surtout dans des sanctuaires dédiés à des divinités féminines, et parfois dans des tombes de femmes (comme sur l’île de Rhodes). L’un des plus connus se situe au British Museum (numéro d’inventaire 1852,0112.3) : il s’agit d’une coquille de Tridacna squamosa, avec une tête humaine gravée sur l’apex et des sphinw ailés et fleurs de lotus incisés. Retrouvé à Vulci, dans le Latium, ce coquillage servait sans doute à contenir du maquillage». In Tridacna — Wikipédia (wikipedia.org). Mineralogy: Aragonite is a mineral belonging to the carbonate group. Its chemical formula is CaCO3. Orthorhombic crystal system. Hardness: 3.5 to 4.
Location: Clam (Tridacna, bivalve mollusk). Precise region unknown (Western Pacific ?). [Donation of “Promo Pierre Dure”].
Use: “Around the 7th and 6th centuries BCE a craft developed in Phoenicia using engraved tridacne shells originating from the Red Sea. This art is exported to the east of the Mediterranean Basin as far as Etruria. These objects are mainly found in sanctuaries dedicated to female deities,
and sometimes in women’s tombs (as on the island of Rhodes). One of the best known is located in the British Museum (inventory number 1852.0112.3): it is a Tridacna squamosa shell, with a human head engraved on the apex and winged sphinxes and lotus flowers. incised. Found in Vulci, in Lazio,

« Panaché » Sellaite de la Mine de Fontsante, Var, France.2024

Nature : Sellaïte. Formule chimique MgF2. Groupe des halogénures. Dureté 5.5 sur l’échelle de Mohs.
Localisation : Mine de Fontsante (mine de fluorine active de 1919 à 1987), Tanneron, Var, Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur, France. Exploitation souterraine par la société SECME (Pechiney) qui a produit ~ 2 000 000 de tonnes de minerai de CaF2. Dans cette mine la sellaïte a été exploitée ; elle se présente en agrégats fibro-radiés ou en amas au sein de la fluorite.
Géologie : Ce gisement est composé de 20 filons (de direction E-W +- 20°), fortement pentées ( de 70°S à 70° N selon les filons) encaissées dans des gneiss à deux micas (~301 Ma). Selon P. Detang (1981, Thèse Univ. Nice), 4 stades de mises en place des minéralisations ont été identifiés :
1) fracturation des gneiss puis remplissage de fissures par de la fluorine verte et violette (dites « pyramides aztèques ») et du quartz blanc.
2) remplissage des veines principales par de la fluorine verte et/ou blanche avec de la sellaïte.
3) Dépôts (dans des géodes du stade 2) de fluorine jaune/incolore, baryte et sulfures (galène, sphalérite, pyrite, marcassite, etc…).
4) quartz et carbonates (calcite, dolomite, ankérite…).
Outre ses fluorites la mine est connue pour ses barytines et ses minéraux d’argent (proustite, acanthite, stéphanite, etc…).

La Sellaïte beige-brun renferme des fluorines blanches. Don de J. Féraud (BRGM).

Nature: Sellaite. Chemical formula MgF2. Halide group. Hardness 5.5 on the Mohs scale.
Location: Fontsante mine (fluorite mine active from 1919 to 1987), Tanneron, Var, Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur, France. Underground exploitation by the SECME company (Pechiney) which produced ~ 2,000,000 tonnes of CaF2 ore.
In this mine sellaite was exploited; it occurs in fibro-radiated aggregates or in clusters within the fluorite.
Geology: This deposit is composed of 20 veins (E-W direction +- 20°), steeply sloping (from 70°S to 70° N depending on the veins) hosted in two-mica gneisses (~301 Ma). According to P. Detang (1981, Thesis Univ. Nice),
4 stages of mineralization installation have been identified:
1) fracturing of gneisses then filling of cracks with green and purple fluorite (known as “Aztec pyramids”) and white quartz.
2) filling of the main veins with green and/or white fluorite with sellaite.
3) Deposits (in stage 2 geodes) of yellow/colorless fluorite, barite and sulphides (galena, sphalerite, pyrite, marcasite, etc.).
4) quartz and carbonates (calcite, dolomite, ankerite, etc.).
In addition to its fluorites, the mine is known for its barite and silver minerals (proustite, acanthite, stephanite, etc.).
Beige Sellaite-brown contains white fluorines. Gift of J. Féraud (BRGM).

Sénégalite sur turquoise, Gisements de fer de la Falémé, Sénégal

Nature : Sénégalite sur croute de Turquoise. (en cours de sculpture)
Localisation : Ce minéral a été dédié au pays où il a été découvert, le Sénégal. Il a été nommé en 1976 par Zdeněk Johan (ancien Directeur de la Recherche au BRGM, France) d’après sa localité de découverte, le gisement de fer de Kouroudiako, situé dans la vallée de la Falémé, à l’est du Sénégal. Localité type : Mont Kourou Diakouma, Saraya, Région de Kédougou, Sénégal.
Géologie et Âge : La sénégalite est un phosphate d’aluminium contenant de l’eau avec des ions hydroxyde supplémentaires. Sa formule chimique est Al₂PO₄(OH)₃·H₂O.
Propriétés optiques : Transparente, non fluorescente, non radioactif. Couleur : Verte quand elle est fraiche à jaunâtre quand elle est alérée. Éclat : Vitreux. Dureté Mohs : 5,5. Densité : 2,552.
La sénégalite se forme dans les zones d’oxydation des gisements de minerai de fer, en particulier dans les environnements latéritiques riches en aluminium. Ses cristaux sont bien développés, atteignant jusqu’à 3 mm de large.
Les cristaux de Sénégalite (petits cristaux au sommet de l’échantillon) reposent sur une croûte de Turquoise (en bleu) et sont souvent accompagnés d’Augélite, de Variscite, de Wavellite et de Crandallite.

Location: This mineral was dedicated to the country where it was discovered, Senegal. It was named in 1976 by Zdeněk Johan (former Director of Research at BRGM, France) after its discovery location, the Kouroudiako iron deposit, located in the Falémé valley, in eastern Senegal.
Type locality: Mont Kourou Diakouma, Saraya, Kédougou Region, Senegal.
Geology & Age: Senegalite is a water-containing aluminum phosphate with additional hydroxide ions. Its chemical formula is: Al₂PO₄(OH)₃·H₂O.
Optical properties: Transparent, non-fluorescent, non-radioactive.
Color: Green when fresh to yellowish when weathered. Luster: Glassy. Mohs hardness: 5.5. Density: 2.552.
Senegalite forms in oxidation zones of iron ore deposits, particularly in aluminum-rich lateritic environments. Its crystals are well developed, reaching up to 3 mm wide. .
Senegalite crystals (small crystals at the top of the sample) sit on a crust of Turquoise (in blue) and are often accompanied by Augelite, Variscite, Wavellite and Crandallite.

L’harmonie entre les œuvres est due au hasard heureux de cette rencontre, alors que les deux artistes ne se connaissaient pas. Elle doit aussi beaucoup à la « scénariste » Mme A. Garnier, pour qui rien n’est jamais impossible.
