OBSIDIENNES / OBSIDIAN

Nom scientifique :
Obsidienne à sphérolites ferrifères (verre volcanique rhyolitique avec sphérolites ferrugineuses à cristobalite). Nom commercial : « Peanut Obsidian », « obsidienne cacahuète »).
Scientific name:
Obsidian with ferriferous spherolites (rhyolitic volcanic glass with ferruginous spherolites with cristobalite). Trade name: ‘Peanut Obsidian’, ‘peanut obsidian’).

Minéralogie / Mineralogy:
Matrice (verre) : Silice (SiO₂ > 75%), < 5% Fe, Mg, Al. Matrix (glass): Silica (SiO₂ > 75%), < 5% Fe, Mg, Al
Sphérolites : Cristobalite + feldspath alcalin + hématite. Spherolites: Cristobalite + alkaline feldspar + hematite
Coloration rouge : Oxydes de fer, majoritairement hématite (Fe₂O₃). Red colour: Iron oxides, mainly hematite (Fe₂O₃)
Sphérolites : Structure radiale, souvent zonée, diamètre : 3–8 mm. Spherolites: Radial structure, often zoned, diameter: 3–8 mm
Dureté : ~5–5,5 (Mohs). Densité : ~2,35 – 2,4 g/cm³. Hardness: ~5–5.5 (Mohs). Density: ~2.35 – 2.4 g/cm³.

Géologie :
Roche issue d’une lave rhyolitique refroidie rapidement. D’où formation d’un verre volcanique (obsidienne), puis dévitrification partielle aboutissant à la formation de sphérolites de cristobalite et oxydation/hydrothermalisme (apport d’oxydes de fer (Fe³⁺)) diffusant dans les sphérolites (devenant rouge sanguin)
Geology:
Rock from rapidly cooled rhyolitic lava. Hence the formation of a volcanic glass (obsidian), then partial devitrification leading to the formation of cristobalite spherolites and oxidation/hydrothermalism (addition of iron oxides (Fe³⁺)) diffusing into the spherolites (becoming blood red)

Gisements : Mexique, régions volcaniques du Michoacán, Hidalgo, Ucareo, Pachuca.

OBSIDIENNE à « Flocons de Neige », SNOWFLAKE OBSIDIAN

Nom commercial : « Obsidienne noire à flocons de neige », Trade name: ‘Snowflake Black Snowflake’.

Géologie : dômes rhyolitiques ou coulées d’obsidiennes, produits par des éruptions de rhyolites/dacites, riches en SiO₂.
Les obsidiennes se forment lorsque le refroidissement est rapide et empêche la cristallisation complète.
Les « flocons » blancs sont des cristaux radiaux (sphérolites) de cristobalite (minéral polymorphe de la silice, de haute température, >1470°C) qui se forment par dévitrification partielle du verre. Wikipédia
Geology: rhyolitic domes or obsidian flows, produced by eruptions of rhyolites/dacites, rich in SiO₂.
Obsidians form when cooling is rapid and prevents complete crystallization.
The white ‘flakes’ are radial crystals (spherulites) of cristobalite (polymorphic mineral of silica, high temperature, >1470°C) that are formed by partial devitrification of glass.

SYENITE

Syénite néphélinique. Nepheline-bearing syenite

Nature : Syénite à néphéline (roche plutonique constituée de feldspaths alcalins et sodiques et de néphéline).  
Localisation : Fitou, Aude, France.
Géologie : « Le massif de Fitou (1 000 X 400 m) apparaît en regard sous la série mésozoïque de la « nappe » des Corbières. Il est localement intrusif dans les terrains triasiques de ce regard et se trouve en contact anormal avec les différents termes de la série secondaire décollée (Trias à l’Urgonien) » (in A. VITRAC-MICHARD, F. ALBARÈDE et B. AZAMBRE, Age Rb-Sr et 39Ar-40Ar de la syénite néphélinique de Fitou, Bull. Soc. fr. Minéral. Cristallogr., (1977), 100, 251-254. Ces auteurs donnent un âge probable pour la mise en place de cette syénite de 82 Ma.
La roche est une syénite néphélinique à perthite, aegyrine, hastingsite, biotite et dont la néphéline est partiellement analcimisée.
La base de donnée minéralogique Mindat.org indique une vingtaine d’espèce minérales présentes dans cette roche magmatique : Aegirine, Aegirine-augite, Albite, Allanite Group, Analcime,  Andradite, Apatite, Astrophyllite, Biotite, Cancrinite, Catapleiite, Eudialyte (minéral rouge présent dans Ivresse 1), ‘Feldspar Group, var. Perthite,  Fluorite,   Hastingsite, Låvenite, Nepheline, Orthoclase, Pectolite, Pyrochlore Group, Sodalite, Sphalerite,  Titanite, Wöhlerite, Zircon.
Technique : Sculpture guidée par la morphologie de la roche. A caresser pour apprécier son soyeux.

Nature: Nepheline-bearing syenite (plutonic rock consisting of alkali and sodium feldspars and nepheline).
Location: Fitou, Aude, France.
Geology: “The Fitou massif (1,000 x 400 m) appears below the Mesozoic series of the Corbières “tablecloth”. It is locally intrusive in the Triassic terrains of this view and is in anomalous contact with the different terms of the detached secondary series (Triassic to the Urgonian)” (in A. VITRAC-MICHARD, F. ALBARÈDE and B. AZAMBRE, Rb-Sr and 39Ar-40Ar age of the nepheline syenite of Fitou, Bull. Soc. fr. Minéral. Cristallogr., (1977), 100, 251-254. These authors give a probable age for the establishment of this syenite of 82 Ma.
The rock is a nepheline syenite with perthite, aegyrine, hastingsite, biotite and whose nepheline is partially analcimized.

GRANITOÏDES, GRANITOID

« Noble granite », Granite « de » bordure de trottoir, Curbside granite. 2016 

Ce morceau de granite m’a été aimablement donné par un employé communal, car il était cassé. cette cassure a déterminé la réalisation. Pourquoi est-il « noble »? Ce n’est pas du a la beauté de la roche, sans doute granite du Portugal, ni de la partie crêtée, « couronnée ». Mais uniquement par ses deux particules : il s’agit d’un granite de bordure de trottoir.

This piece of granite was kindly given to me by a municipal employee because it was broken. this break determined the achievement. Why is he « noble »? This is not due to the beauty of the rock, undoubtedly granite from Portugal, nor of the crested, « crowned » part. But only by its two particles: it is a sidewalk granite (french joke due to 2 particules: « de bordure de trottoir »).

Cette exposition a été organisée par la Mairie de Saran dans un lieu magnifique, le Château de l’étang.

Un grand merci aux organisateurs, et en particulier à Mmes M. Abomès et A. Garnier, qui ont permis et facilité sa réalisation par leurs disponibilités et leurs compétences. Merci également aux 1111 visiteurs, qui ont bravé le climat de Novembre.

This exhibition was organized by the Saran Town Hall in a magnificent location, the Château de l’étang.

A big thank you to the organizers, and in particular to Ms. M. Abomès and Ms. A. Garnier, who enabled and facilitated its realization through their availability and skills. Thanks also to the 1111 visitors, who braved the November climate.

L’harmonie entre les œuvres est due au hasard heureux de cette rencontre, alors que les deux artistes ne se connaissaient pas. Elle doit aussi beaucoup à la « scénariste » Mme A. Garnier, pour qui rien n’est jamais impossible.

The harmony between the works is due to the happy chance of this meeting, when the two artists did not know each other. She also owes a lot to the ‘screenwriter’ Ms. A. Garnier, for whom nothing is ever impossible.
